Moving From Busywork to Dreaming in Title
If you’re working in title in 2020, you are probably stressed, overworked, and wondering when you’re going to get a break. Does it feel like I’m reading your mind?
We get it: title is stressful and if you’re a closer or processor, you have to do a lot of busywork. But we want to see you win no matter what level you’re at in your company. There are three main roles in every business: entrepreneur, manager, and technician:
- 1. Entrepreneurs are the dreamers
- 2. Managers are the ones managing systems
- 3. Technicians are the doers who close the files
Everyone who is reading this right now fits into at least one of these categories. And, depending on the size of your company, you might be wearing multiple hats (this pyramid of business was inspired by Michael Gerber’s book, The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About It).
No matter what position above (entrepreneur, manager, or technician) best fits you and your daily tasks/role, our goal is to help you spend more time wearing the entrepreneur hat in that role than the technician hat.
Here’s how you can do that.
Move from a Technician to an Entrepreneur
Again, our goal is to move you from a technician (who is always doing, doing, doing) to an entrepreneur (who makes time to dream). It is a major breakthrough for any company when their technicians can fluidly move into the roles of manager and entrepreneur when necessary. No matter what your role is at your company, we want to empower you to dream about how you can provide your clients with the best possible care and attention.
So how do you do this? How do you start to do your job better? Follow these two steps:
- 1. Create a vision of what you want to do
- 2. Define the strategic work you need to do in order to execute your vision
Step 1: Create a Vision
Think about what your clients should expect. In order to do this, you have to time block (if you want tips on how to time block, check out our post, Are You Stoned or Stuck?). Once you block off time to allow yourself to dream, it’s time to get a vision of the future of your company and the way you will care for your clients.
So grab a blank piece of paper.
I know what you’re thinking: a blank piece of paper staring back at you, peering into your soul, is a very scary thing. But this is an important step.
Let yourself dream about what your clients should expect from your company, from your job. Think about how to offer 6-star care in a 5-star world.
Yes, you read that right: 6-star care!
But, why 6 stars you might be asking? Because Google only allows for 5-star ratings.
We challenge you to dream beyond the limits of customer service, which is a reactive process, to imagine how you can provide real customer care, which is a proactive process.
You can also ask your employees to perform this dreaming exercise on their own. Then, you can assemble your employees to discuss their ideas. Your collective blank sheet of paper might be a giant white board in your company’s conference room or a virtual white board if you are meeting remotely.
I know that another Zoom meeting is the last thing your employees want to do right now--we’ve all had enough Zoom for one year. So, if you’re looking to get company buy-in so that your employees want to participate in this collaborative dreaming exercise, we would love to have a 30 minute video chat with you to discuss how to go about this. There is never a cost to set up a chat with us. We are passionate about helping you succeed!
Step 2: Define the Strategic Work to Execute Your Vision
In order to make your vision a reality, you have to plan how you’re going to accomplish it.
How can you move from a technician to an entrepreneur? How can you provide better quality of care to the realtors, lenders, and customers your title company closes for?
You must be able to do more with less.
A great way to do this is by using CloseSimple’s automated email and text messaging updates.
CloseSimple provides automated text and email messages that we work with you to customize to your title company’s needs. Even better, these automated updates integrate with your current title production software. With the touch of a button or upon the completion of a specified task, the automated message can be sent out, allowing you to get more work done in less time and with less stress.
With the time saved using automated updates, closers and processors at your company will now have more time that they can block off for dreaming--dreaming about how to save even more time and how to provide even more efficient and quality care to your clients.
So the big question is this: what are your dreams for your business?
